EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will support the Environmental Health and Safety Division, serving as the safety and health technical resource and ensuring all operations are performed in accordance with appropriate regulations and policies. Typical assignments include:
- Leading and coordinating life safety, occupational safety and health programs at disaster operations.
- Leading health and safety investigations and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensuring and training appropriate implementation of instruments and safety procedures.
The ideal candidate has expert knowledge of national safety and health laws, policies, regulations and standards, operational directives, methodologies and objective regulations issued by higher authorities such as Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1904, 1910, 1926, 1960, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, American Society Heating , Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 55 and 62 and Institute Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certificate (IICRC) S500 and 520 sufficient to implement Occupational Safety & Health programs.
Promotion Potential: Positions filled under Stafford Act regulations generally do not have documented promotion potential; however, dependent on an employee’s ability to perform higher level duties, the continuing need for an employee to perform work associated with a higher level position, and administrative recommendation and approval, promotions may be earned by CORE employees.
Occasional travel - Occasional non-emergency travel may be required.
