Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), Public Service Division (PSD), Historical Resource Center (HRC). As a Museum Curator, you will serve as a member of the HRC team, working collaboratively with the Lead Curator and Historian and performs a variety of activities that support and enhance the work of the HRC, OEX, and BEP.

Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Support development and preservation of the objects collection to ensure it is an effective tool for supporting OEX and BEP needs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for information on the history of BEP and its products.
  • Conduct research on the history of the BEP and its products.
  • Research projects are carried out with a high degree of independent self-direction in defining problems for study and determining investigative approaches and may be of considerable scope that often addresses previously unrecorded historical developments concerning the history of the BEP and its products.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines for directing management of the objects collection.
  • Make recommendations for, and participate in, the physical and intellectual organization of the Collection; includes supporting relocation of the objects collection.
  • Catalogue objects as needed and reviews catalog records to confirm established cataloging procedures and data entry standards are followed; coordinates with cataloging contract staff to make needed corrections.
  • Monitor the physical condition of objects to determine conservation needs, recommends conservation priorities, and arranges for conservation treatments as needed.

SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Requirements for this position are:

A degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study.


For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Conducting collections-based research and management as it pertains to proper care, registration and documentation of objects and records; AND
- Supporting exhibits and presentations for museum collections; AND
- Managing outgoing loans of artifacts in a museum setting including duties such as; loan requests paperwork, insurance, shipping logistics, loans registration, and electronic and hard copy records related to all loans; AND
- Providing oral or written response to public and internal inquires.


For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Conducting collections-based research and management as it pertains to proper care, registration and documentation of objects and records; AND
- Supporting exhibits and presentations for museum collections; AND
- Supporting outgoing loans of artifacts in a museum setting including duties such as; loan requests paperwork, insurance, shipping logistics, loans registration, and electronic and hard copy records related to all loans; AND
- Providing oral or written response to public and internal inquires.
OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.



Education

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
