Salary includes applicable locality pay. Salary range encompasses the lowest level of pay at the GS-05 and highest level of pay at the GS-06.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes operating multi-line telephones, computers or radio equipment to provide information; inputting data collected from callers into databases and software systems; complying with and follow standard operating procedures in a fast-paced and changing environment; and operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software to perform various computer operations in support of office operations. Experience may have been obtained through Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Services Dispatcher, or similar activity is preferred but not required. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes operating multi-line telephones, computers, and radio equipment to provide information pertaining to emergency and non-emergency requests; interviewing callers to determine nature of call to respond with appropriate personnel and equipment; provide pre-arrival instructions to callers while waiting for assistance to arrive on scene; advise police or fire personnel of appropriate responses based on emergency call; providing administrative and clerical support to customers and/or multiple agencies; providing direction to callers or visitors to resolve problems or refers them to appropriate office for assistance; and maintain reports, records, communication logs, or databases of the daily activities for the organization. Experience may have been obtained through Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Services Dispatcher, or similar activity is preferred but not required. Experience may have been obtained through Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Services Dispatcher, or similar activity. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Fire Science or Communications.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
