We are looking for nutritionists to join our team supporting USDA's Child Nutrition Programs, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC), and Food Distribution Programs! Working with our public, private and non-profit partners, our mission is to increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet and nutrition education in a way that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as an expert and provides leadership in carrying out Organization, Agency and Departmental nutrition and nutrition education goals.
  • Develops nutrition education and training resources to support the Federal Nutrition Programs using multiple communications channels.
  • Identifies and interrelates new developments that may affect the goal, operation, and effectiveness of Federal Nutrition programs in terms of nutritional services, nutrition education and food service systems management.
  • Develops and administers grants, contracts, and cooperative and interagency agreements to meet the goals of the Federal Nutrition Programs.
  • Provides expert advice to program operators, industry, professional associations, and Congress on how foods fit within Child Nutrition meal patterns and/or WIC food packages.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

To qualify for the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service.

Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:

  • Writing nutrition education and training resources for diverse audiences using plain language.
  • Communicating nutrition information for the public using digital platforms and channels.
  • Analyzing the nutritional content of food products.
  • Managing project timelines and budgets.
  • Analyzing the impact of laws and regulations on nutrition program operations.
  • Summarizing, analyzing and/or applying scientific evidence and data to inform programmatic priorities.
  • Communicating orally and in writing with a wide array of audiences, including senior leadership, managers and staff, policy makers, program partners, and nutrition professionals in order to provide subject-matter expertise and leadership in carrying out Organization, Agency and Departmental nutrition and nutrition education goals.
