Duties

Help

The Public Affairs Specialist (Digital Communications) is responsible for performing a variety of assignments to facilitate the workflow of the media team and the Office of External Affairs (OEA). The incumbent will primarily support the development and implementation of multi-platform digital campaigns, media outreach, and daily operations for the team.

  • Interviewing stakeholders to gain insight and background for content development.
  • Supporting email specialist in content development and production for broadcast communications.
  • Using social media tools to develop post content to support social media manager's content calendar.
  • Writing news and blog posts designed to drive traffic, promote engagement and support Agency and Administration objectives in support of our media team.
  • Assisting in maintaining content calendar.
  • Serving as an editor for Agency departments for internal/external communications, emails, blogs and other content as requested.
  • Writing, proofing, and editing content to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with brand platform, AP Style and Agency style guide.
  • Reviewing, updating, and providing style guide training for colleagues.
  • Distilling complex ideas, data, and research into compelling content.
  • Discovering creative narratives and insights to bring the AmeriCorps story to life.
  • Adeptly manage a busy workload and competing deadlines.
  • Providing excellent customer service and responsiveness to colleagues across the agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower range of the NY-02 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: 1) establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at multiple levels within an organization in order to develop and disseminate coordinated messages that accurately address organizational programs; 2) preparing written or multimedia materials to promote the organization's mission; and 3) designing and tailoring messaging strategies to the general public and special target audiences that involved a degree of complexity.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps VISTA) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. A copy of your unofficial transcript must be submitted with your application package.

You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable.

As a Term employee, you will not be covered be the agency's Interchange Agreement with the Office of Personnel Management, which allows for noncompetitive transfer from AmeriCorps to other agencies in the competitive service of the federal government.

This American Rescue Plan (ARP) term appointment will not exceed September 30, 2024.
