The Sources and Detectors Group, located in Boulder, Colorado seeks a physicist or engineer to support and lead a program in optical fiber-based, single photon detector (SPD), and optical fiber power meter metrology. The Group provides the U.S. and much of the world, SI-traceable, fiber-based optical power measurements. The Group's customers are primarily manufacturers of metrology equipment and multiple entities of the US Government. The candidate will support the calibration and traceability requirements for single photon technology that will be crucial to the transition of single photon technology to the marketplace. This work also establishes the foundation for the intercomparison of component technologies in various networking testbeds through a unified and consistent traceability chain. The successful candidate will ensure timely calibration of customer devices (government and industry) across these areas while pursuing research to improve the technology, possibly expand the services, and undertake international comparisons, and participate in international standards activities.
