Duties

Help
  • Provide technical guidance as to equipment established and sound practices, common problems and deficiencies and methods of their correction, fire fighting techniques, applicable reference material, and inspection practices.
  • Furnish expert services on advisory on proposed fire protection features.
  • Implement Army Regulations, Technical Manuals, and standards to establish policies, procedures, and criteria for efficient and economical fire prevention and protection.
  • Provide input to the Human Capital Strategic Plan for Fire Fighters.
  • Review Fire Loss Reports to determine principles involved in causes of fire, and fire prevention and protection regulations, and preparation of recommendations for corrective action.
  • Revise broad fire prevention and protection performance metrics and criteria for application in fire protection and prevention structures and equipment.
  • Oversee the agency Fire Fighting Apparatus and F and ES administrative non-tactical vehicle fleet program to include establishment of agency procedures for management, including recapitalization and refurbishment of the fleet.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance for duration of employment.
  • In accordance with AR 600-SO, the incumbent of this position must file on a yearly basis a "Confidential Statement of Employment and Financial Interest" (DD Form l555).
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • You may be expected to travel up to 25% for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes revising criteria for application in fire protection and prevention structures and equipment; initiating action for research and testing of fire equipment and materials; providing input to the budget for an organization; providing guidance to senior leadership on fire prevention and protection. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires the following certifications: Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, and HAZMAT Incident Commander. NOTE: You must provide a copy of the certificates.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

  • This is typically a 40 hours work week position.
  • Title 5 U.S.C. 3307 authorizes the head of any agency to establish a maximum entry age for the original appointment of individuals to the position of firefighter.
