The United States Pretrial Services Officer conducts investigations, assesses risk of nonappearance and danger to the community, and makes recommendations on the type of bail and conditions to be met by the defendant if released.
Supervises defendants released on bail to monitor compliance with the conditions of release.
Works with confidential material which is protected under the United States Pretrial Services confidentiality regulations, issued under Title 18 U.S.C. ยง 3153(c)(2). Disclosure of any confidential information to the outside public is prohibited.
Other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a field of academic study, such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, human relations, or business or public administration which provides evidence of the capacity to understand and apply the legal requirements and human relations skills involved in the position.
This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service.
Applicants must be physically capable, have good vision and normal hearing ability. First-time appointees must not have reached their 37th birthday at the time of appointment. Applicants 37 or over with previous federal hazardous duty experience under the Civil Service Retirement System or the Federal Employees Retirement System may be eligible for appointment.
