About the position:

This position will be assigned to the Club on Nellis AFB, NV.

Flexible employees have no guaranteed hours, but may work up to 40 hours per week. This position does not offer benefits.

Requires prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, light lifting and dexterity of fingers and hands. Subject to shocks, burns and exposure to skin conditions.

May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.

Duties

Help

In accordance with accepted techniques of the trade, as modified by local policy, cuts customer's hair to the individual's satisfaction. Exercises tact and courtesy and works according to time schedules. In performance of the work, uses all instruments of the Barbering trade. Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner. Removes hair clippings, cleans chair, vanity and mirror. Ensures that equipment is used in accordance with established procedures. Keeps the general area of the shop neat by removing trash and keeping the floor clear of debris. Washes and dries towels for reuse the following duty day. Cleans, sterilizes and sanitizes all implements, tools and equipment used in accordance with established procedures. Answers the telephone, makes appointments, checks on-line reservation site/app and makes appointments. Ensures that appointments are properly logged and that services are provided at scheduled time. Operates cash register. Receives payment in the form of cash, checks, coupons, and charges for services and is accountable for cash received. Provides assistance in determining quantity and kinds of supplies needed and ensures needed supplies are available. Each barber must maintain a minimum average of 24 haircuts per day.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Satisfactory completion from a certified school of Barbering or Cosmetology. If a graduate of a School of Cosmetology, the applicant must have actual experience as a barber and worked in that capacity. Required to have a current state Barber or Cosmetology license. Must have recent experience servicing all types of hair to include Ethnic fades, flat tops, high and tights and military clipper cuts. Must have prior cash register and cash handling experience.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
