Summary

This position is in the Chief Information Office (CIO) which manages the information resources environment for the Forest Service.

The incumbent oversees the staff responsible for facilitating the coordination with field and Forest Service leadership to all information technology (IT) infrastructure, business applications, and information management services.

Duties

Help
  • Interpret and recommend enforcement of information technology (IT) policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Facilitate the coordination between the field and leadership to all information technology infrastructure, business applications, and information management services.
  • Research and analyze complex IT issues where the success of the program is dependent on the Information Technology solution.
  • Identify and provide for the developmental and training needs of employees.
  • Promote and support a positive work environment to create a climate of mutual respect and integrity.

Qualifications

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: providing functional expertise, analysis, and advice for information technology (IT) interface decisions, integrated processes, and operational considerations; and/or recommending changes, updates, or adoption of services to optimize functionality of IT services to meet anticipated customer needs and mission requirements for the future; and/or analyzing the efficiency of IT systems and applications and developing plans that ensured the integrity, availability and efficiency of data, network, systems and applications; and/or developing and interpreting policies, procedures, and strategies governing the planning and delivery of IT services.

In additions to the qualification requirements above, applicants must have information technology-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week, based upon the duties of the position. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.
