This position is with the Directorate of Emergency Services located at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. In this position you will serve as a Security Guard at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. You will independently perform, with little or no supervision, installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances. Serves as the initial point of contact for the installations visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP). Authenticates identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), identification cards, badges, biometric automated records, verbal questioning, and other means. Provides answers to questions, determines whether appropriate need for access exists, and provides assistance as required. Records visitor information and purpose of visits, as necessary; and may issue short or long term passes as needed. Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles. Exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties. Assists Department of the Army Civilian and Military police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, taking statements, etc.
Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
You will be held to the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program in accordance with AR 190-56.
Shift work is required. Hours of work include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Overtime may be required as directed.
You must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
Rotating shifts are required.
Incumbent must pass pre-employment and annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
Incumbent must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment.
Incumbent may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
Incumbent must pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid, state-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
Incumbent is required to wear a uniform.
A pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination are required.
Business travel up to 10%.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; and 2) performing vehicle searches confiscating unauthorized items; and 3) verifying identification and controlling access to premises. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
