Coordinates strategic planning efforts in alignment with directorate goals and science priorities.
Develops major briefings and program reviews to Center management, NASA Headquarters, and other stakeholders regarding program plans, status, procurement, resources, and technical issues.
Establishes, monitors, and reports on performance metrics, outcomes, and accomplishments for research and mission science activities.
Leads collaboration with NASA Centers, government agencies, private industry, academia and international organizations in research and analysis, proposal development, instrument development, mission development, etc. for the directorate.
Supervises branch management, coordinates with directorate management to forecast and plan branch priorities, and evaluates and facilitates research activities.
Works across organizations (internal and external) to develop innovative ideas and new business opportunities for the directorate, consistent with the guidance set by the Agency and the center.

Qualifications
In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level : experience leading a research group or project; experience in resource planning, proposals, and managing risk factors related to science programs and projects; knowledge of interdisciplinary Earth science research; experience in one or more of the following areas: research and applications, advanced technology development, field campaigns, mission formulation/implementation, and data retrieval/analysis/archive; and experience in securing competed and directed work.

Education
You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or other field of physical science.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
