Duties

Help
  • Serve as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) providing professional and comprehensive advocacy services to victims/survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
  • Accompany victims and provide support in securing medical treatment, safe shelter, protective orders, court hearings, educational, transportation, financial services, and follow-up assistance.
  • Accompany victims when securing support services (i.e. medical treatment, safe shelter, protective orders, education/financial services, transportation and follow-up assistance).
  • Conduct assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services.
  • Conducts interactive training workshops/seminars to victims, community agencies and the organization.
  • Ensure victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures,
  • Ensure that victims understand the processes involved and that data will be collected, reported, and maintained on cases.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to carry cell phone and be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a rotational basis, based on the needs of the organization
  • Must successfully complete 80-hr SHARP Course and obtain DOD Certification within 6-months of hire.
  • Individuals will be screened by the National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Individuals will be screened by the through the Crime Records Center and the Army Central Registry for a history of domestic violence.
  • Must possess a valid driver?s license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Temporary Duty Travel at 30% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Victim Advocate (SHARP):

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as performing work which includes providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; conducting assessments which clients to evaluate needs and risks; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; maintaining partnerships in the community, and conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Work

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages
