Duties

Help
  • Provide expert technical support and facilitate interdisciplinary approaches to the development of resource plans and recreation management activities
  • Evaluate program recommendations and modifications.
  • Inspect and determine special clauses for contracts, special use permits and agreements to include recreation considerations.
  • Assisted in analyzing and recommending priorities and adjustments based on changing direction.
  • Provide predictions on the accomplishment of established goals for recreation management activities.
  • Prepare detailed environmental analysis reports and evaluate proposed statements prepared by others.
  • Gathered accomplishment information for use in measuring overall accomplishments.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled in any of the job series listed below.

Basic Requirement:
GS-12
Required Education (Professional/Scientific):

GS-101 series:

  1. Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position or
  2. Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR
  3. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

GS-401 Series:
  1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR
  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GS-807 Series:
  1. Degree: landscape architecture or landscape design OR
  2. Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-12: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the following: Assisted in formulating long-range resource management planning input; Participated in the review of program recommendations and modifications submitted by District Rangers or staff specialists for soundness, conformance and integration with other resource activities; Provided technical advice to Identify the need for and recommended schedules and priorities within Forest recreation programs; Analyzed and recommended priorities and adjustments based on changing direction from the Region.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
