About the Position: The position is with US Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). The TMDE Support Region East is in the "Maneuver Center of Excellence" in Ft Benning, GA, located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, GA and Phenix City, AL.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as the workload dictates, as a specialist in physical/dimensional and ionizing radiation calibration.
  • Identify document errors in existing procedures and provides information used for the development of technical documents used for Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) calibration and certification.
  • Implement adapt, modify and occasionally develop technical procedures required by changing user or equipment requirements.
  • Assist and advise users in the application of, and calibration requirements for TMDE in support of their mission.
  • Assist and advise users in the application of, and calibration requirements for TMDE in support of their mission.
  • Interface with user, manufacturer, and US Army TMDE Activity engineers as necessary to clarify questionable areas concerning the use and accuracy of instruments or nonstandard TMDE.
  • Calibrate all types of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical measurement systems used in industrial, ground, airborne, and experimental applications. Prepare calibration reports for customer use.
  • Provide measurement traceability through an Army Area Calibration Laboratory, the Army Primary Standards Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to the International System of Units.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common calibration tasks. I can operate multi-parameter electronic instruments using analog and digital signal processing such as radio and radar test sets, high frequency digital sampling and storage oscilloscopes, and distortion analyzers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
