Duties

Help

As a/an IT Specialist (Front-End Web Developer), you will:

  • Develop and maintain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for CFPB's internal and external websites and apps using current design practices, technologies, and frameworks. Code development includes but is not limited to working in the following technology frameworks HMTL, CSS, JavaScript, data visualization (High charts, D3, MapBox.js etc.), static site generators, React, Node, Django, Wagtail, and/or Python.
  • Lead or participate in product and design sessions with stakeholders at all levels throughout the Design and Development team and/or bureau.
  • Turn large data sets into intuitive, well-designed web-based visualizations and interactive tools, in conformance with CFPB's style guide and modern web design standards. Solves complex development problems and works with designers and developers to implement usability test and data reporting for the purpose of optimizing web designs and content.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience for CN-53: To qualify at CN-53, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade/band (CN-52, GS-12 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as:
- experience building large scale production websites and applications with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; AND
- experience leading IT projects, and communicating IT related issues to senior management through both oral presentations and written reports.

Specialized Experience for CN-52: To qualify at CN-52, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade/band (CN-51, GS-11 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as:
- experience building production websites and applications with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
- experience presenting technology recommendations or research findings to other technical team members.

Specialized Experience for CN-51: To qualify at CN-51, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade/band (CN-40, GS-9 or equivalent) in the Federal service. For this position specialized experience is defined as:
- experience building websites with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
-experience assisting and preparing materials presenting technology recommendations or research findings to other technical team members.

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Education

Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions

Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
