Duties

Help

Stocks food service carts, wraps, arranges, and/or packages items for serving to children and youth.  Transports food to and from kitchen to classrooms.  Pre-rinses and washes pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware.  Operates dishwasher.  Maintains clean orderly work area including food prep area, cupboards, ceilings, exhaust hoods, floors and walls and sanitizes using industrial strength cleaning products.  Labels and dates all refrigerated food items in accordance with health standards.  Moves heavy garbage cans when collecting and transferring trash from the work area.

  • Work schedule may be a rotating schedule, which covers early mornings, late evenings and split shifts.
  • These positions are subject to background check and pre-employment medical screenings in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Incumbent may be assigned to work at various Child & Youth Centers as needed within Naval Base Kitsap.
  • The work requires considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Must obtain and maintain valid food handlers card.

Qualifications

Understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures.  Basic understanding of recipe construction.  Knowledge of techniques for measuring ingredients.  Knowledge of basic arithmetic.  Working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures.  Ability to obtain a food handler’s card.   Must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent.  Ability to speak, read, and understand written material in English such as time and duty schedules, menus, recipes and work instructions.  Ability to favorably pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.  Ability to satisfactorily complete all background checks to include National Agency check.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent.
