Duties

Help

Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed, corrects hazards on the spot when possible or reports hazard to supervisor or facility manager for work order to be submitted, preforms safety checks throughout the day, preforms chemical readings to ensure compliance with AFI 48-114, reports any discrepancies to Lead Guard, warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail, and completes cleaning tasks on daily and weekly checklists. May operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. May perform other duties as assigned for the daily operation of the facility.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certifications or nationally recognized equivalent is desired. Certification in Emergency Oxygen Administration must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire. Blood Borne Pathogens certification must be obtained within 12 months of position acceptance. Applicant must be able to demonstrate knowledge of rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid, and CPR skills. Applicant must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, and procedures. Skill in the use and maintenance of various pools and safety equipment is desirable. Must satisfactorily complete the physical requirement of the position. Applicant must satisfactorily complete all required security checks.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Additional information

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
