This position serves as a Beneficiary Travel Clerk within Medical Administration Service (MAS). This position is responsible for making eligibility determinations for two types of benefits under the Beneficiary Travel Program: (1) Mileage Reimbursement, commonly known as "travel pay" or (2) Special Mode Transportation. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Reconciles Beneficiary Travel Vouchers and uses Beneficiary Travel Dashboard to calculate mileage.
Determines method of payment for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims.
Maintains daily vendor and station driver transportation logs.
Processes mileage reimbursement claims using VISTA.
Uses various computer programs such as Word, Excel and Access to create and maintain spreadsheets and databases.
Reviews and prioritizes daily workload and assignments.
Schedules patient transports in a timely manner.
Assists in performing audits and special projects as needed.
Provides excellent customer service.
Interacts with physicians, patients and vendors to coordinate patient transport.
Answers telephonic inquiries regarding mileage reimbursement and special mode transportation.
Verifies eligibility and makes determination if Veterans qualify for the Beneficiary Travel Benefit.
Determines whether Veterans are eligible for a waiver of the Beneficiary Travel Deductible.
Processes denial letters when claimant is found to be in-eligible for Beneficiary Travel Benefits.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: The work requires no special physical demands, but will require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. The work area is usually an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office/medical facility setting. The work environment involves everyday risks of discomforts that require normal safety precautions.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
