Duties

Help
  • Use high density genotypes to construct linkage maps of a spring oat nested associated mapping population consisting of approximately 1500 lines.
  • Phenotype the population in field trials to obtain agronomic metrics such as heading date, height, lodging, and disease resistance.
  • Measure end-use quality grain traits such as the percentage of protein, oil, and beta-glucan using biochemical techniques.
  • Develop an improved near infrared (NIR) spectrometry model for high throughput quality-trait phenotyping.
  • Perform linkage mapping analysis to identify genetic loci that are associated with traits.
  • Develop and validate high-throughput marker assays to refine and track useful quantitative trait loci (QTL) which will facilitate fine mapping and introgression into adapted germplasm.
