Duties

Help

As a Archivist in the Office of NIH History and Stetten Museum (ONHM),your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversees the organization, processing and reformatting, description, and digitization of analog and born-digital scientific and biomedical research collections in compliance with professional archival standards.
  • Develops, evaluates, and modifies policies, programs, activity standards, professional standards, guidelines, procedures, and user manuals related to the appraisal, arrangement, cataloging, description, preservation, access, and use of ONHM's archival collections, including disaster planning.
  • Evaluates the need for additional or modified contract support. Prepares statements of work and other documentation related to contracts or purchase order procurements.
  • Provides orientation interviews for on-site researchers, explains Reading Room regulations and procedures, determines the specific area and level of interest, guides researchers to the most effective approach to their specific projects and recommends materials appropriate for their use.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
OR
A combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional Requirements:
You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, related to archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or evaluation of information having historical or archival value and have experience performing the following types of tasks: Developing and implementing strategic plans for an archival program and managing others to assist with archival functions. Providing access to biomedical physical and digital collections through preservation, reformatting, digitization, arrangement, and description of records. Appraising and acquiring physical and digital materials through donations, transfers of ownership, or the capture and recording of current or recently transpired organizational pursuits.
