As the Office of Inspector General (OIG) for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), we remain an independent and objective organization, conducting and supervising audits, evaluations, and investigations relating to the Department's programs and operations. As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
- Perform as spokesperson and coordinates media inquiries, official responses and represents HUD OIG to the Department’s Office of Public Affairs. 
- Prepare speeches, talking points, talk tracks and varied communications materials assisting senior leadership in their interaction with the department, local housing authorities, media entities, the general public, and the Congress. 
- Provide strategic media relations plans and direct management and outreach to all media platforms on behalf of HUD OIG. 
- Monitor the development of materials and guidance to support various program offices, regional offices, and headquarters to conduct media relations campaigns. 
- Serve as the resource point in the OIG for resolution of difficult communication strategies and issues concerning effective implementation of program efforts and outreach related to the operations of HUD program areas nationwide.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. 

To be qualified for this position at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level. Specialized experience includes:
- Implementing communication principles, methods, practices and techniques covering a major agency public affairs outreach and activities to include the dissemination of public information, stakeholder outreach and engagement, strategic communication branding, media relations, publications, and other forms of communication; AND
- Managing domestic and/or international information and communication programs within the financial, housing, regulatory, law enforcement, and/or intelligence communities.

Time-in-Grade:
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment:
Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust – Background Investigation will be required.
