Summary
You will serve as a Biomedical Research Scientist in the Biomedical Research and Environment Sciences Office of the Human Health and Performance Directorate.
Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
Generate, manage, and implement exercise and applied human performance physiology research proposals as a principal or co-investigator, in
participation with diverse teams.
Identify and/or oversee strategic research plans that mitigate human health and performance risks associated space flight.
Communicate diverse technical content (of moderate complexity) for decision at management forums.
Identify and apply research and technical innovations involving human space systems physiology that solve problems of moderate complexity.
Oversee a moderate-to-large research laboratory to include oversight of technical, cost, schedule, and contractor team deliverables to various
NASA Programs (consistent with risks).

Qualifications
In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level as a principal or coinvestigator for crew health and performance applied research proposals, preparing protocols for Institutional Review Boards; critically analyzing applied human research data and assimilating findings, preparation of technical reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and oral presentations for decision making; AND Experience participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and/or medical doctors to resolve technical issues and generate consensus recommendations and requirements for decision; AND Experience as a member of a research team, including input to research priorities, and determining resource requirements; determining short-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinating with parts of an organization to accomplish goals while monitoring progress and evaluating outcomes.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level as a principal investigator or lead scientist, including oversight of a research strategy that addresses human health and performance risks, publication of microgravity-related manuscripts in exercise or applied physiology fields that illustrate a thorough understanding of the underlying physiological and human performance issues related to spaceflight, and application of this information to conduct applied research that develops and validates countermeasure protocols to ensure the health, safety, and performance of crewmembers during and after space flight; AND Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and/or medical doctors to resolve complex technical issues and generate consensus recommendations and requirements for Program management decision; AND Experience leading a team of researchers, setting priorities, and determining short- and long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinating with other organizations to accomplish goals while monitoring progress and evaluating outcomes.

Education
You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, or another field of physical or biological science or related disciplines appropriate to this position.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
