Summary

This postion is in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Office of Opinion Research, Near East/South Asia Division and is responsible for providing all-source intelligence analysis on the countries of South Asia and on the politics, foreign policy, and economics of the countries in the regions by analyzing foreign affairs intelligence and public opinion. Performs daily review, reporting, and briefing to high-ranking officials on the subject matter as it involves U.S. intelligence interests.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as a liaison between the Department and the U.S. Intelligence Community, other foreign policy agencies, and public opinion polling experts and firms in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Serves as survey project manager.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, and conducts analyses of foreign public opinion that provide comprehensive assessments of broad, exceptionally complex, or highly sensitive issues within the countries of South Asia.
  • Initiates, establishes and maintains liaison with analysts and officials in other components of the Intelligence Community, other relevant agencies concerned with public opinion analysis in South Asia.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements, including education and any selective placement factors described below by the closing date of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education OR if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience planning, developing, and conducting analyses of foreign public opinion related to countries in South Asia.
  • Experience evaluating the techniques and skills of public opinion polling companies to improve the quality and effectiveness of polling capabilities abroad.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting public opinion polling and analysis as it applies to the politics, economics, and societies in South Asia.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.

  • Ability to write comprehensive intelligence-related reports & briefing senior officials on the results.
  • Knowledge of South Asian politics, economics and society, & U.S. foreign policy towards the region.
  • Knowledge of the design and management of public opinion survey data.
  • Ability to apply logic & reasoning.
  • Ability to establish/maintain liaison with officials throughout the intelligence community.
