As an Criminal Investigator You Will:
ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION:
Evaluates assigned investigations. Analyzes initial allegations and recommends the extent of investigative resources required and the necessity for any collateral support. Makes recommendations on the basis of such factors as nature and sensitivity of the specific allegation: position held by the suspect official; projected scope of the investigation required: and capability of any additional resources to conduct the investigative support. Analysis and evaluates detailed fiscal documents, databases and program data to ensure compliance with grant provisions and agency regulations.
INVESTIGATIONS, SURVEILLANCE AND APPREHENSION:
Plans, organizes and personally conducts investigations with regard to a wide variety of allegations received by the AmeriCorps OIG which typically involve complex, difficult or sensitive criminal or administrative investigations of major importance and high level interest and misconduct allegations involving employees, contractor, grantees, members and volunteers. Plans and personally conducts surveillance or undercover work. Apprehends and arrests persons violating U.S. laws and conducts searches and seizures incident to the arrest or when appropriate, by warrant.
COORDINATION AND DIRECTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI) serves as lead case investigator, coordinates investigations, which may involve multiple subjects and/or locations. Conducts peer review of investigative reports and makes recommendations to fellow investigators. Provides technical assistance to other law enforcement personnel by evaluating and discussing investigative problems and by making suggestions.
REPORTING AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
Drafts and prepares concise, logical reports of investigations and summaries, including recommendations for prosecution and corrective action. Participates in the formulation, interpretation, application and execution of plans, policies, standards and procedures affecting the conduct of investigations and activity to deter criminal activity and misconduct by AmeriCorps officials, employees, grantee, contractor, members and volunteers. Prepares reports and testimony supporting the mission, goals and objectives of the Office of the Inspector General to include testifying as a government witness before Grand Juries, in the court (in criminal cases) and at administrative hearings in non-criminal cases.
LIAISON:
Personally maintains liaison with other law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and national levels for purpose of obtaining their cooperation in furnishing information concerning illegal activities involving violations of criminal law related to AmeriCorps programs, operations and personnel in the private sector which could assist in ferreting out violations.
