Duties

Help
  • You will work from technical directives, drawings, manuals and other written or verbal instructions and assists equivalent and lower-graded employees.
  • You will modify aircraft and aircraft components by incorporating airframe (AFC), bulletins, etc.
  • You will operate more complex hand and power machines, e.g., sliproll forming machines, box and pan breaks, rotary machines, etc.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Ability to work independently, make decisions, plan operations, show job responsibility, and exercise initiative. 2) Ability to devise new methods and specialized devices and to modify equipment. Examples include: Able to put new ideas into practice. Able to make adaptations of old devices, or techniques to new situations (for example, able to adapt pumps and distributing equipment to local conditions). Able to make necessary adjustments to sequences of operations, as in development work like modification or repair of experimental devices; devise and manufacture specialized equipment and adapt standard equipment in order to complete an assigned task; and work without fully developed guides, solving problems and contributing to design completion. Able to effectively adapt shop equipment and practices to unique fabrication problems, as in planning fabrication of testing equipment and prototype models needed for research and development. 3) This pertains primarily to journeyman jobs or higher in trade and occupations requiring ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprints. Examples include: Receiving oral directions from supervisor or other person; hand or mechanical signals. Written directions from supervisor and work orders. Manufacturers' guides, catalogues, technical manuals, bulletins, codes, drawings, blueprints, charts, and maps. Requests, complaints, etc. received from customers, engineers, technicians, scientists, or the public. Getting information about a limited subject such as materials to be used, sizes, etc., or operations to perform. Interpreting changes in instructions. Getting information on allowances, tolerances, etc. 4) Ability to develop and transfer sheet-metal shapes, outlines, and forms from drawings, sketches, blueprints, and work orders to metal or nonmetallic surfaces, showing work to be done. This involves use of scriber, dividers, height gages, trammel points, triangles, protractors, etc., in accurately indicating cuts, holes, angles, bends, and shapes to be produced.
