This is an open continuous announcement. The initial cutoff date for referral will be Monday, June 28, 2021. The second cutoff date for referral will be Thursday, July 29, 2021. The third cutoff date for referral will be Monday, August 30, 2021.   The fourth cutoff date for referral will be Friday, October 1, 2021. The Fifth cutoff date for referral will be Sunday, October 31, 2021The final cutoff date for referral will be the closing date of Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

A probationary period may be required.

This position is ELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).

This is a BARGAINING unit position.

Relocation expenses will be paid.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and individual states being in different phases of reopening, once the selectee becomes an employee, the report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time that management notifies the employee of their requirement to report.  Until it is safe to relocate, the employee may be approved to telework to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full-time.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement: 

Basic Requirements:  

A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement.

B. Combination of education and experience - at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Note:  Additionally, to receive credit for coursework that is not catalogued on the transcript as Statistics or contain 'statistics' in the course title, applicants must attach a copy of an official course description that clarifies the course has statistical content, or written documentation which must be on official school letterhead from a professor or a school official verifying that the content of the course has either met the 50 percent statistics course requirements or was a statistical course.

And, in addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement above, applicants must have the specialized experience or education, if substitution is permitted, listed below.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes:  Applying or using standard statistical methods and analyses found in college textbooks; using statistical analysis software to assist with researching, implementing, or evaluating statistical methods; assisting inplanning surveys; and assisting in developing a portion of a report using statistical analysis.  

Education:  1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement - Superior Academic Achievement 

OR

Specialized Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes:  Applying or using standard statistical methods and analyses found in college textbooks to real survey data; using statistical analysis software to research, implement, or evaluate statistical methods; assisting in planning surveys or in statistical consulting; developing a report on statistical analysis; performing statistical work in a real-world setting, such as: sample design and estimation for finite populations, editing, handling missing data, outlier detection, seasonal adjustment, benchmarking, disclosure avoidance, design and analysis of experiments.  

OR

Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
