Duties

Help
  • Analyze archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable.
  • Compile and report information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources.
  • Review work in progress to ensure compliance in all aspects of cultural policies and standards.
  • Conduct inventories of cultural resources.
  • Adapt ground search strategies as determined by specific project requirements i.e., terrain, vegetation cover, and time frames.
  • Insure that archeology work assignments are carried out in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures.
  • Research archeological reports.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service and meet 2 of 4 examples of specialized experience. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) conducting cultural resource inventory surveys, archeological field surveys; 2) archeological excavation projects; 3) laboratory analysis of artifacts, identifying and recording archeological sites; 4) producing site and survey maps. OR One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as: anthropology, archeology, history); OR combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that together meets the requirements of the position. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

For the GS-7: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service and meet 2 of 4 examples of specialized experience. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) conducting cultural resource inventory surveys, archeological field surveys; 2) archeological excavation projects; 3) laboratory analysis of artifacts, 4) preparation of technical cultural resource reports. OR One (1) full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as: anthropology, archeology, history); OR combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that together meets the requirements of the position. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

RPL applicants who meet the basic minimum qualifications and have a rating of at least minimally successful on the most recent performance appraisal.

VEOA applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements and are determined to be among the best qualified. Best qualified is defined as receiving a rating of at least 91 out of a possible 100 based on responses to the occupational questionnaire.
