  • The employee serves as a resource for the agency in the area of economics. The position is responsible for collecting economic and audit data from sources, analyzing statistical data, preparing quantitative analyses, preparing analytical reports. The employee will help gather and analyze data, research economic and public policy issues, plan and conduct quantitative studies, prepare executive presentations, organize roundtables and workshops related to audit topics, and write audit reports concerning the postal industry and Postal Service economics and operations.
  • Responsible for economic research, analytical techniques for economic studies and conducting analysis of economic issues.
  • Identifies problems, assesses the adequacy of existing programs, and recommends changes.
  • Conducts policy oriented research in development of innovative approaches to existing and new problems in an economic field.
  • Applies economic analysis and quantitative techniques to produce audit reports to the study of financial, economic, and policy issues.
  • Collects relevant data to analyze a specified problem.
  • Travel required, may be up to 50%.

Qualifications

The Auditor Economist (0110) occupational series requires:

  • The duties and responsibilities of this position require (1) a degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus or (2) a combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in (1) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

A resume review and 2-part structured Interview will be conducted for the top rated applicants to validate your experience meets the critical general competencies at the minimum proficiency level. Part 1 will include a 1-way video interview. For part 2, top rated candidates may be invited to participate in a panel interview. Please ensure your resume contains examples of your knowledge, skill or ability in the following areas:
  • Knowledge of economic theory and principles sufficient to perform studies and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of economics, particularly regulatory economics or applied microeconomics.
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis, and develop audit reports.
  • Knowledge of basic economic research and statistical techniques to analyze economic data.
  • Skill in data analysis and report writing to present findings.
  • Ability to express and present ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Career Advancement Opportunities
The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system, which is equivalent to the Federal GS scale. Grade and salary determinations will be made based upon a candidate's education and professional experience. This position is being advertised at the Journey Band level, equivalent to a GS-9. The salary range for this position is $60,129.00 to $78,167.00 per year. The salary figures do not include locality pay. Non-competitive promotion up to a GS-13 equivalent level is possible through our career ladder program.
