Duties

Help
  • Develop reports and other documents on the policies, programs, plans, research accomplishments, and other activities.
  • Maintain awareness of scientific advances and legislative developments in mental health research and issues having implications for current and planned health research and research training programs.
  • Provide staff support to expert committees and major meetings to address major program and science policy issues.
  • Establish working relationships with Institute staff' and others, and consults with a wide range of individuals who are involved in scientific research to identify major issues.
  • Provide guidance, advice, and assistance to other senior federal leadership concerning major science policy issues affecting NIMH research.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation) at the time the degree was obtained.

GS-12: In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, you must demonstrate one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: evaluating issues associated with health-related research programs (i.e. mental health research); analyzing health-science policies; coordinating and preparing materials with health-related research content for scientific programs; maintaining liaisons or collaborations with stakeholders; interpreting scientific information for all audiences.

GS-13: In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, you must demonstrate one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: advising senior leadership on issues concerning health-science policies; contributing to the development of biomedical research policy; developing planning and evaluation processes; evaluating scientific programs and recommending changes; developing research policy communication documents (i.e., talking points, briefing materials, etc.).
