This position is located in the Information Architecture Branch (IAB), Division of Library Services (DLS), Associate Director for Scientific Resources (ADSR), Office of Research Services (ORS), Office of the Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Acts as the senior writer-editor responsible for providing high level consultation and direction to professionals and senior management on
editing policies and procedures
Coordinates the editing duties of librarians and informationists.
Coaches and mentors all editors; provides guidance and oversight for policies and procedures and offers feedback to individual editors.
Monitors use of the collection and makes recommendations for additions/withdrawals
Coordinates and teaches classes on writing and the scholarly publishing lifecycle.
Prepares material for printing and publication.
Provides a full range of editorial support.
Manages substantive editing going to third-party providers which includes reviewing work from outside editors before approving payment.
U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Writer-Editor, GS-1082 position at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: writing and editing products that articulate, interpret, and explain a variety of subjects, tailored to specific media and audiences; analyzing and editing both draft and final versions of a variety of written products prepared by the staff, management, or outside contractors; assisting authors or independently redrafting and modifying to improve the written material as to consistency, clarity, and succinctness as well as sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; coordinating the work of designers and technicians in developing effective, accessible formats, as well as illustrations and tabular material to augment the written message.
In order to qualify for a Writer-Editor, GS-1082 position at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: advising and assisting authors during the writing stage; researching and rewriting to organize, balance, and complete deficient manuscripts to meet publishing objectives; coaching and mentoring other editors; and performing a full range of editing assignments for technical and scientific research programs.
