Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Chief Protocol Officer for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. Provides direction and guidance to a group of protocol personnel who perform various duties in support of the Command Visitor Orientation and Reception Program.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

This position will be filled at the GS-12 or GS-13 grade level. Non-competitive promotion to the GS-13 is authorized.

Duties

Help
  • Plan/coordinate protocol duties and requirements for official visits by domestic and foreign dignitaries, military, civilian and congressional visitors for all TACOM Offices, Command Partners at the Detroit Arsenal.
  • Advise and oversee protocol actions for protocol and oversee protocol actions for protocol personnel at six offsite locations (depots/arsenals) on all facets of protocol operations.
  • Manage protocol requirements for official receptions, entertainment functions and ceremonies for visiting dignitaries, composition of guest lists, receiving lines, flag lines, menus, seating/position arrangements and decorations or floral displays.
  • Provide protocol orientation and instruction to Business Group Designated personnel and escort officers, general officers and to other TACOM and Detroit Arsenal organizations.
  • Maintain, analyze, and coordinate data for various reports, e.g. special upcoming events for the Commander and for use by various Directorates/offices and identify problems impeding program effectiveness.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience for GS-12: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: coordinating transportation arrangements, accommodations, and itineraries with personnel of the Command organizations; developing welcome packets (which may include: brochures, literature and maps describing facilities, visit itineraries, etc.) created specifically for designated visitors; arranging protocol requirements necessary for official receptions, entertainment functions and ceremonies for visiting dignitaries; and maintaining a current local policy file on visit-related matters, (i.e. samples of maps, brochures, standard guides, etc.) to establish a pattern of hosting visitors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Specialized Experience for GS-13: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: planning and executing high protocol duties for special events of the organization; utilizing military protocol procedures, customs, and rank to appropriately greet high-ranking dignitaries, present visitors at receptions, and to present briefings; providing direction/guidance to a team on the coordination of events and visits; and coordinating itineraries with personnel of the Command organizations being visited and other interested organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent:
--For the GS-12, must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-11 level, or equivalent.
--For the GS-13,must have 52 weeks of Federal Service at the GS-12 level, or equivalent.
