The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a Board Certified/Eligible Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician to work within the Regional Amputation Center and PM&R Department. The Minneapolis VA Regional Amputation Center (RAC) is one of 7 Centers within VA and serves the Midwest region. The mission of the RAC is to provide the highest level of specialized expertise in the field of Amputation Rehabilitation over the continuum of care from before amputation surgery to lifelong follow-up. Prosthetics and therapy services including physical, occupational and recreational therapy are integrated into the program.

The Minneapolis VA has a highly active research and development program in prosthetics and rehabilitation, the Minneapolis Adaptive Design and Engineering Program, which offers opportunities to participate in and develop research in this field

Minneapolis VA Physical, Medical & Rehabilitation is a large department consisting of inpatient, transitional and outpatient levels of care and also includes specialty programs in brain injury, stroke, general rehabilitation, diagnostic EMG, musculoskeletal and comprehensive pain care.

The Minneapolis Health Care System is a 1a tertiary medical center affiliated with the University of Minnesota. There are many opportunities for educational involvement with students, residents and fellows.

Requirements Include

- successful completion of an ACGME PM&R residency
- interest in working in an academic setting
- demonstrated success collaboratively working in a team environment and interest and/or experience in amputation rehabilitation.

Responsibilities Include
- inpatient care on the acute rehabilitation unit as well as the consult service, outpatient clinics and telemedicine clinics.

Recruitment/Relocation Incentive authorized. Amount to be determined.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
