This position involves writers-editor researching, analyzing, distilling, and presenting information either in a variety of fields or, with a broad and nonspecialized approach, in a single field. They communicate information for such purposes as:
Articulating policy
Making public reports on the activities and plans of agencies
Explaining the laws agencies administer to those affected, especially concerning their rights and obligations
Reporting the results of research and investigations
Follows the style standards of the Associated Press Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style, the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, and the Government Printing Office Style Manual as required.
Writes and edits additional publications for the DAU Press, including but not limited to, brochures, internal and external newsletters, guidebooks, and other specialty publications.
Responsible for quality control of all edited publications produced by the DAU Press
Develops promotional campaigns and tactics for digital media and to coordinate such efforts with the DAU office of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs.
Work and coordinate with the DAU website team; work with various DAU departments to produce multimedia products in support of the magazine.
Develops and manages a strategy for increasing digital engagement with magazine content
Manages the magazine's website and/or social media content to ensure consistency, accuracy, and engagement.
Managing editor of Defense Acquisition magazine
Focus on digital and multimedia publication in addition to the print version
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the publication process including: conceiving, developing, assigning, writing, managing the publication website, soliciting ideas for, and coordinating new multimedia content, with a primary focus on digital publication and promotion through social networks and email
Solicits article submissions and determines their suitability for publication, consults with contributors on desired content and ongoing editorial process, maintains records of articles' progress.
Solicits and/or manages face-to-face or written interviews with defense acquisition leaders up to the level of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment and other staff and officials within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Experience Required: Demonstrated knowledge of English grammar and editing practices including the incorporation of standard proofreading marks. Familiarity with the requirements of standard editing manuals including Associated Press Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style, the Government Printing Office Style Manual, and the Publications Manual of the American Psychological
Association.
Demonstrated understanding and ability to publish content digitally using combination of tactics, techniques, and media, including, but not limited to, text, video, and audio.
Ability to research, analyze, and present information in a variety of formats using print and digital mediums.
Demonstrated ability to substantively edit at the senior level in the fields of defense acquisition, technology, and logistics reports, regulations, newsletters, news releases, brochures, handbooks, pamphlets, guidebooks, primarily Defense Acquisition magazine.
Demonstrated knowledge of the publications production process for a large publication such as a magazine.

Education
The Faculty Plan requires a minimum of a 4-year degree unless waived by the DAU President.
Pay Band A: Minimum Prerequisites
You must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and have at least 4 years of experience in the appropriate functional area in either government or industry.
Pay Band B: Minimum Prerequisites
You must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and at least 6 years of experience in the appropriate functional area in either a government or industry.
Pay Band C: Minimum Prerequisites
You must possess a Bachelor's Degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and at least 8 years of experience in the appropriate functional area in either a government or industry.
