Duties

Help

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tracks and monitors notifications of investigative cases, preliminary inquiries, incoming and outgoing correspondence, case referrals and reports of investigations across multiple electronic case management systems.
  • Makes recommendations for strategies on reports of investigations.
  • Works under the close direction of a supervisor or senior Investigator performs a range of investigative functions in connection with cases involving alleged or suspected violations of Federal laws, rules, or regulations relative to any of AmeriCorps programs and operations.
  • Serves as a Federal investigator authorized to conduct investigations under the direction of a supervisor or senior Investigator.
  • Assists in the analysis of complaints or allegations to identify the issues involved and the evidence needed.
  • Works closely with senior investigators to determine the scope, timing, approach and direction of assigned investigations and in determining specific sources of information needed for assigned cases, and develops plans for the acquisition of required data.
  • Work with Senior Investigators to initiates contact with a variety of individuals related to matters under investigation for the purpose of obtaining facts, signed statements, and explanation of actions.
  • Works with Senior Investigator and verifies sequence of events and gathers pertinent background information to develop and follow leads and evaluation of evidence concerning alleged, suspected, or known violations.
  • Follows investigative steps of problem, identification, analysis, definition, and solution. Resolves contradictory evidence and testimony through fact-finding, interviews, and surveillance to support a legal/administrative decision; and analyzes links of sketchy information and establishes relationships to misconduct or violations.
  • Works closely with a supervisor or senior investigator to establish a network of reliable informants and Interviews witnesses to develop evidence substantiating violations or to resolve allegations. Conducts necessary third-party investigations to resolve issues. Assesses information obtained to determine its accuracy and authenticity, and determines which data can be used as evidence.
  • Works closely with a supervisor or senior investigator to plans and conduct investigations involving multiple law enforcement jurisdictions/judicial districts, legal or illegal organizations and/or multi-layered real or fictitious organizations, and a multiplicity of investigative subjects, involving highly complex or unusual schemes, or evidentiary or legal problems.
  • Exchanges critical information coordinates investigative results and provides advice and assistance in connection with investigative matters.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the low range of the NY-02 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Specialized experience includes: the planning and conducting of investigations relating to alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws; gathering and assisting in analyzing financial data; and experience collecting and processing document evidence.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement as defined by being in the upper third of your graduating class; or possessing a 3.0 GPA or higher over four years of education; or possessing a 3.5 GPA or higher during final 2 years of education. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards.

You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable.
