Duties

Help
  • Supervisory duties are performed 25% or more of the time.
  • Provides technical expertise and consultation in the areas of project management, biometrics, geospatial analyses, forest inventory, geographic information systems (GIS), and geospatial analysis data management.
  • Applies and integrates the product of workflow analyses, statistics, and remote sensing information into database operations and natural resource information Management (IM) systems.
  • Provides forest inventory or natural resource project management training and assistance to technical staff.
  • Applies the practices of forest biology and land management principals, practices, and concepts to provide leadership and national level advisory assistance on a resource inventory program.
  • Collaborates with partners and other natural resource inventory specialists to provide advice and respond to frequent user requests.
  • Provides feedback and communicates changes necessary to develop, improve, and enhance natural resource databases and systems concerning the extent, content and trends of the nation?s forest, tree, and other vegetation resources.
  • Participates in conferences, workshops, and task groups within the agency or with external partners.
  • Examines natural resource data, resolves inconsistent information, and plans revisions to investigate results.
  • Compiles analytics, and relays field and office inventory techniques (periodic and annual), and data applications.
  • Develops improvements to the procedures used in collecting, verifying, compiling, and summarizing strategic inventory data.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirements:

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience in the amounts listed below.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in federal service. To qualify at this level, your resume must reflect 52 weeks of 3 out of 4 of the following duties:

Developing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring natural resource information projects using project management procedures, tools, templates.

Providing program and technical advice for the compilation, storage, and delivery of strategic multi-resource inventory data.

Incorporating analyses of natural resource and geospatial data, and statistics in SQL databases for the information management (IM) needs of a natural resource monitoring program.

Providing technical guidance and leadership to plan and implement a natural resource monitoring program with land management agencies, universities, and other partners.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education alone is not qualifying for this grade level.
