Summary

The Complaint Adjudication Officer is responsible for issuing final decisions for the Department of Justice (Department) in administrative cases filed under Section 717 of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, 42 U.S.C. 2000e-16, Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. 791, Section 15 of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, 29 U.S.C 633a, and Title II of Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, 42 U.S. Code § 2000ff.

Duties

Help

The incumbent oversees the Complaint Adjudication Office and is responsible for duties such as, but not limited to:

  • Issuing decisions regarding complaints of discrimination, class action certifications, class relief, and attorney's fees.
  • Supervising and managing the work workflow of attorneys. This includes reviewing and editing all draft decisions to ensure that they appropriately reflect the investigative record and are consistent with relevant law.
  • Managing the daily operations of the office, including ensuring that all administrative, personnel, and budgetary requirements are followed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a J.D. from an American Bar Association accredited law school, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any jurisdiction), and possess a minimum of five (5) years post-professional law degree experience. Applicants must have strong, demonstrated qualifications in the following areas: academic achievement; substantive knowledge and expertise in the laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the work of the section or substantially similar laws, rules, and regulations; written and oral communication skills; the ability to analyze complex issues; skill and experience working collaboratively and productively with others; organizational skills; professional judgment; initiative; and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, demanding environment. In addition, applicants must have the ability to motivate and engage employees; the skill to build relationships that create trust, open dialogue, and full transparency; the assertiveness to drive outcomes and overcome adversity; the capacity to create a culture of clear accountability; and the integrity to make decisions based solely on merit.
