The incumbent serves as the Lead Dental Officer for the Surveillance, Investigations, and Research Team, Division of Oral Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. The incumbent provides specialized expertise to analyze oral health epidemiologic studies and other collected data and applies this knowledge to complex and critical problems in the important areas of surveillance, program evaluation, and community-based research.

Duties

Help

As a Lead Dental Officer, you will:

  • Consult on scientific and technical issues about the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques used in oral health research, dentistry and dental care services, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
  • Apply knowledge to complex and critical problems in the broad areas of surveillance, program evaluation, and community-based research.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, analyze, report, and disseminate findings from studies and research projects that rely on epidemiologic and statistical methods.
  • Function as a national and international oral health scientist and provide expert scientific advice and consultation on solutions to critical problems.
  • Lead a team of experts who provide specialized expertise in analyzing oral health epidemiologic studies and other collected data through the use of highly complex statistical packages and computer models.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have one year of full-time experience in professional dentistry work experience that is equivalent to the GP-13 level of difficulty and responsibility in (or equivalent) to the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph:

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience planning, designing, developing, and conducting epidemiological and other studies related to oral diseases conditions and behaviors.
