This position is with the Office of Inspector General, Office of Strategic Programs (OSP), Data Analytics Unit (DAU). The DAU performs data science and data analytics work to support internal decision-making and the OIG's oversight of DOI programs through audits, evaluations, and investigations.
You will serve as a Statistician (Data Scientist) that leads and conducts complex data analyses to support OIG planning and work.
Summary
This position is with the Office of Inspector General, Office of Strategic Programs (OSP), Data Analytics Unit (DAU). The DAU performs data science and data analytics work to support internal decision-making and the OIG's oversight of DOI programs through audits, evaluations, and investigations.
You will serve as a Statistician (Data Scientist) that leads and conducts complex data analyses to support OIG planning and work.
Leading and conducting complex data analyses by utilizing statistical methods and statistical, data management, and business intelligence tools; combining data sets; and applying filters and models to large data sets. Performing quality control on the work of others by reviewing and verifying coding, statistical work, research methods, data cleaning, and the interpreting results.
Developing analytical solutions for a broad range of requests from auditors, evaluators, investigators, and other OIG staff. Developing data warehouses; dashboards; and data pipelines, data models, and architecture for continuous and/or proactive monitoring projects.
Advising all levels of OIG staff and management, including senior executives, on the interpretation of data and results of analyses. Developing and delivering written products, visual aids, and oral presentations to OIG executives and employees that clearly communicate conclusions and recommendations related to complex subjects.
Providing expert technical advice to peers and management within and outside of the OIG on statistical methods and techniques. Maintaining contacts within the DOI, Federal community, and private and public industries to maintain awareness of emerging issues and trends and share best practices.
Developing material for and/or conducting training sessions for OIG personnel on relevant statistical and data analytic topics.

Education Requirement:
Degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlations, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
Minimum Experience Qualification GS-13:
One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:
Presenting technical information to management in meetings
Reporting on technical material, studies, analyses, or findings containing data, and
Fulfilling requests for data acquisition and analysis

There is no educational substitute for the GS-13 level.
