Help

As a SUPERVISORY ARCHIVIST, you will:

  • Define and schedule overall work to be accomplished within assigned program areas to assure achievement of specific policies and objectives.
  • Oversee the management of the Presidential records and other archives in all media formats, including textual, audiovisual, and electronic.
  • Plan and oversee implementation of the declassification program at the Library to meet NARA goals.
  • Plan for and direct the preservation of materials against deterioration.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Experience leading a a team, program, or project; AND
  • Experience collaborating and executing communication strategies, plans or policies to individuals; AND
  • Managing multiple priorities; AND
  • Interpreting and applying federal laws, regulations, legal decisions, policies, procedures, and directives pertaining to the receipt and processing of requests made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Presidential Records Act (PRA).

Education

Education Requirements:

Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) are fully qualified for the specified entry grade (generally grade GS-5). Applicants who wish to qualify for positions at higher grade levels (generally grade GS-7 and above) must also meet the requirements shown in the table on page IV-A-22, in addition to meeting the basic requirements.

A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: Archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience--at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above--plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
