Summary

This position is located at the Lucky Peak Nursery in Boise, Idaho.

The position provides technical assistance to professional and technical personnel by performing a variety of recurring and moderately complex duties in support of the production of plant material for reforestation and restoration projects. Duties

Help
  • Routinely monitor seedlings to prevent or minimize damage from pests, disease and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Apply amendments, fertilizers and chemicals at specified rates to maximize seedling health and growth.
  • Operate a variety of greenhouse and nursery equipment including soil fillers, spreaders, root pruners, seeding machines, chemical injectors, spray booms and controllers.
  • Use botanical key to identify plants and/or plant components.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to operate and maintain controlled environment greenhouses and/or bareroot fields for seedling production.
  • Grow tree seedlings and/or other plants in containers maintaining the proper environmental conditions in the greenhouse.
  • Maintain accurate records from chemical applications and treatments

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-5: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as meeting one or more of the following:

  • Participating in plant-related projects by assisting with measurements, recording observations, and assisting with the collection of biological and vegetation specimens;
  • Performed routine technical assignments in support of propagating and growing seedlings; and/or
  • Acquired field data by measuring and recording pertinent biological information in support of a nursery.
OR
A bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics and at least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled.
OR
A combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university .
