Help

The primary duties of this position are:

  • Plans and coordinates IT system's hardware/software installation and lifecycle upgrades, overseeing and resolving technical and administrative problems, controlling current versions and future releases of hardware and software, and documenting the configuration of the systems.
  • Develops standard operating procedures for a variety of IT systems tasks or activities.; identifies and researches trends and patterns in order to develop new methods and criteria and/or propose new policies or practices for systems administration activities.
  • Consults with customers to identify priorities and best approaches for integrating systems administration requirements into daily operations.
  • Ensures all guidance and work products comply with the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Bureau/Office IT security requirements. Identifies and mitigates security vulnerabilities and risks.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT: To be eligible for the position, you must meet the Basic Requirement for the position of IT Specialist. Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Documents technical configurations and procedures at a level of detail appropriate for the audience.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available cybersecurity products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position (in addition to meeting the Basic Requirement), your resume must clearly describe specialized experience that demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities as follows:

GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government. Specialized experience is defined as one year of experience providing technical support and service provisioning for electronic messaging and SharePoint, project management and customer support. Experience developing specifications, performing modification, installation, implementation of new and/or existing IT systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Applicants will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
