Fitting of Orthotic Prefabricated Devices
The incumbent is responsible for measuring and fitting of orthotic prefabricated devices for the spinal, upper and lower extremities. Is responsible in maintaining an adequate environment to ensure patient's confidence with the service provided. When doubt arises concerning the prescription is responsible to contact the physician and/or the Certified Practitioner to clarify request. The incumbent is responsible to train patients in the use and care of the dispensed device, in order to achieve the expected results.
Receives/Interprets Requests for Prefabricated Orthotic Devices
Receives and analyzes orthotic request for prefabrication devices entered thru the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) by physicians and other professional staff. Review the request for completeness, comparing disability and diagnosis for devices and for proper documentation provided to justify the issuance. The incumbent
advises physicians and other professional staff as to the availability, selection, and developments in the prosthetic and orthotic field and sources based on VHA 1173 Handbook.
Clerical Support/Requestor
The incumbent is responsible to receive patients, either in person or over the telephone and refer to the appropriate service or clinician. Responsible for answering routine inquires and to make appropriate referral to questions concerning service for Prosthetic and Orthotic Lab and fitting room. The incumbent is responsible for the complete processing of all related encounter data. Looks for delayed orders or problems concerning delivery of requested prosthetic and/or orthotic devices and provides follow up with the concerning personnel to solve complaint in an effective and prompt manner. Responsible to pack and prepare, foam boxes, measurements, orthotic device from the Orthotic & Prosthetic Lab. The incumbent is responsible to document that workload performed is entered in the prosthetic package including encounters for each patient visit. Compiles statistical data of prefabricated orthotic/prosthetic items /services for VISN. Researches information on orthotic devices services from local and national sources. This procurement process extends from the initial patient contact to the delivery of the item and follows up. This involves searching for prefab orthotics and prosthetics devices from mandatory or expeditiously obtained to meet the need of the Veteran. The incumbent is responsible for taking the ABC exam and become certified meeting all regulatory and procedural requirements. This must be completed in two years from the date of hire and must maintain certification at all times.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level (GS-07) without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
