Summary

You will serve as an Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Specialist in the Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office of NAVSURFWARCEN IHEODTECHDIV.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11 and GS-12.

  • You will be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health programs.
  • You will conduct surveys, periodic inspections and special studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, ordnance explosives production facilities, and operations where toxic and flammable liquids, gases and chemical materials.
  • You will evaluate personal protective equipment to determine compliance with regulations.
  • You will evaluate workplaces to determine environmental health risks, exposure levels and make technical recommendations of findings.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-3
(GS-9/10 equivalent)
grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial construction, repair, overhaul or maintenance operations to ensure workplace safety.

Education

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

Completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
~OR~
LL.M., if related (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
