As a IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) GS 2210 12/13, at the full performance level, your typical work assignments may include:
(This is a 24 hour a day/7 day a week /365 days a year rotating shift environment).

-Monitor and analyze enterprise network and security related traffic statistics and system alerts to determine possible points of failure.
-Coordinate, manage, report, and track security and network related incidents to establish incident criticality and prioritize appropriate response.
-Troubleshoot network outages (e.g. WAN and core infrastructure) using appropriate tools to resolve or escalate within defined service level agreements (SLAs)
-Coordinate and communicate with Government Watch Officers, Engineering and Component Network Operation Centers for incident notification and/or escalation.

Qualifications

Subject matter experts will evaluate the first three pages of your resume (once the experience starts) based on these competencies. You must have at least a year demonstrating accomplishment of the duties and competencies described below.

Competencies:

  • Incident Monitoring- Ability to continuously review information from network traffic tools, alerts, and other communication channels to identify and understand events of interest or incidents within a complex network environment.
  • Incident Analysis- Analyze events of interest, information, and incidents to make correct inferences and draw accurate conclusions. Properly escalates as needed to ensure resolution.
  • Incident Resolution- Knowledge of methods, tools, and procedures to troubleshoot, configure and resolve complex technical issues and outages across varying information technology infrastructure.
  • Communication and Coordination- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences. Coordinates troubleshooting activities with critical stakeholders in high pressure situations during incidents and outages.

For the GS 12 one year of experience at the next lower GS-11 or equivalent level that demonstrates:
To qualify for the GS-12 level, your resume and portfolio will show at least one year experience monitoring network activity in a complex IT environment, analyzing alerts and other events to assess their criticality, and responding to incidents through reporting and escalation methods using various tools and prescribed procedures.

For the GS 13 one year of experience at the next lower GS-12 or equivalent level that demonstrates:

To qualify for the GS-13 level, your resume and portfolio will show at least one year experience monitoring network activity across multiple channels, using an advanced knowledge of network and security protocols to determine the appropriate course of action, and have demonstrated experience coordinating with customers and stakeholders to ensure issue resolution.

Basic Requirement: For all positions in the 2210 Occupational Series individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
