    This Summer Internship opportunity will start no sooner than April 2021.

    Please note that if you are a Spring or Summer 2021 graduate, you will not be eligible for this Internship opportunity unless you are accepted for enrollment at a qualifying educational institution seeking an additional degree (diploma, Certificate, degree program, etc.) or an advanced degree.  You must submit proof of acceptance along with your current transcripts for consideration.

    Responsibilities

    IMPORTANT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Because of the level of interest anticipated for these positions, you will be asked to select up to three duty locations for which you wish to receive consideration, and to rank your location choices in order of preference. You are encouraged to choose carefully and please select only those locations where you would be willing to accept a position. You may wish to consider such things as the cost for relocation, which will not be reimbursed by the agency, and the cost of living in the duty location(s) you select.

    Due to the current global situation, applicants may be eligible to work remotely. This is depending on the hiring office's needs and will be worked out on a case by case basis.

    *Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid.  All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

    NOAA is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented students who are pursuing a degree or certificate program in an accredited educational institution for our Summer Intern Program.  The NOAA Summer Intern Program targets students currently enrolled (or currently enrolled and accepted for enrollment) in a degree-seeking or Certificate program at least on a half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of student by the closing date of the announcement will not be considered).

    Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for Anchorage and Fairbanks, AK is 2.86%, 3.13% for Carolina, PR and 12.62% for Barrigada, Guam and is not federally taxed. The COLA is not reflected in the locality salary shown in this vacancy announcement. COLAs are exempt from Federal income taxes; post differentials are not.

    Post Differential may be authorized for hires outside of the local area. May be eligible to applicants from the mainland, Alaska, or Hawaii. You may be entitled to 25% post differential allowance in addition to the salary for American Samoa and 20& for Guam. Post differentials are not exempt from Federal income taxes.

    You will receive on-the-job and formal training to provide experience in the familiarization with National Weather Service programs, policies, and procedures; and an opportunity to perform progressively more responsible assignments as experience is gained.

    This position is not in the bargaining unit.
