VA Illiana Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time Addiction Psychiatrist for our Substance Use Disorder program based in Danville, IL and servicing our main facility and CBOC (Community Based Outpatient Clinics). Will serve as 50% with addictions and 50% BHIP-outpatient

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, with substance use disorder or other addictions, including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans, who have comorbid mental illness as well as psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management (medication assisted therapy), suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, psychosocial treatment and overall care of patients with substance use, addiction, and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
  • Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education.
  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • The Psychiatrist may serve as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program, performs on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00 am - 4:30pm

RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE MAY BE AUTHORIZED

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.

Qualifications

Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination Requirement for Title 38 Health Care Personnel

The position to which you are applying for employment is considered a Title 38 Health Care Personnel position within the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA). All new VHA Title 38 Health Care Personnel are required to participate in the Agency's COVID-19 vaccination program. The major requirement of this program consists of employees receiving either a complete COVID-19 vaccine series or receiving a medical or religious vaccination exemption. New employees must provide proper documentation of vaccination, initiate a COVID-19 vaccination series, or complete an exemption request within two (2) weeks of beginning employment with the DVA.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/02/2021.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred: Fellowship trained in Addiction Psychiatry, Board certification.
