Help

The Physician (Primary Care) will function in an expanding community outpatient care network. They will enjoy collaboration with various multi-disciplinary teams and provide patient care to our nation's Veterans within the outpatient clinics. As coverage needs arise throughout the region, the incumbent will be expected to provide both on-site and virtual Primary Care coverage for short to long-term periods of time. This coverage responsibility could include oversight of a PACT team and/or support in covering alerts and conducting both virtual or in person visits throughout the region. Additionally the physician will provide care to veterans with heart failure for one to two half-days per week.

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System (VANEOHS) is seeking a full-time Primary Care provider (MD or DO) with training in heart failure management for the Mansfield, OH Community-based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Qualified candidates will have robust clinical experience in caring for primary care patients and patients with heart failure in the outpatient setting and should be interested in program development.

The applicant should be board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

The incumbent will provide care to primary care veteran patients within a patient aligned care team (PACT) on 8-9 half days per week and to veteran patients with heart failure on 1-2 half days per week. VANEOHS is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University and the applicant will be eligible for faculty appointment at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., though some evening or weekend shifts may be necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience:
  • Strong mentoring skills and experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Extensive primary care experience treating a complex patient population
  • Currently active in a primary care practice
  • Demonstrates a high level of practice using evidence based medicine principles involving patients who have complex illnesses.
  • Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
  • Formal training in heart failure management

Education

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): The incumbent for this position may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program, up to $200,000, depending on the amount of verified qualifying debt balance and funding availability. Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
