What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?
Salary: $66,662.00 (Step 01) to $86,665 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
The selectee will be entitled to a cost of living allowance of 4.42% in addition to the basic salary.

As a Research Geneticist within the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center, Hawaii some of your specific duties will include:

Graduate Education: Genetics, or a curriculum or pattern of training that placed major emphasis on genetics. Graduate study in related fields such as agronomy, horticulture, animal, dairy, or poultry husbandry, entomology, microbiology, plant pathology, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and physiology that involved cross-training in genetics is qualifying, provided it placed sufficient emphasis on genetics.
Evaluation of Education: Most students in the field take graduate work because specific training in genetics may be limited at the undergraduate level. Under these circumstances, it may be necessary to evaluate undergraduate course work in genetics in one of two ways, as described below, to determine whether or not it is qualifying.
For GS-11:
In addition to the basic education requirements as stated above, applicants must meet one of the following to qualify at the GS-11 level:
Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree in Genetics, or a curriculum or pattern of training that placed major emphasis on genetics. Graduate study in related fields such as agronomy, horticulture, animal, dairy, or poultry husbandry, entomology, microbiology, plant pathology, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and physiology that involved cross-training in genetics is qualifying, provided it placed sufficient emphasis on genetics.
**OR Possess one year of specialized experience at or equal to the next lower grade level. Examples of experience at the GS-09 level work may include: Lab or field work studies using genetics to address ecological questions for the conservation of species or control of rare or invasive species, performing duties such as applying and adapting professional knowledge of genetics principles, theories, and practices to scientific techniques and practices in the completion of assignments; assists in the planning, organizing, and implementing of genetics research projects; maintains quality control of data collection and database management, and prepares reports.
**OR a combination of successfully completed graduate level education as described above that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study and professional experience, as described above.
