Summary
The National Gallery of Art serves the United States in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of works of art at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards. The Office of Protection Services (AOP) ensures the safety and security of employees, visitors, and the objects entrusted to the Gallery while allowing for the appropriate level of public access to Gallery resources.
Provides technical guidance in formulating, drafting, and reviewing emergency plans, policies, processes and procedures, to include crisis management, emergency/disaster plans, COOP plans and other related contingency programs.
Performs, and when necessary, oversees tasks that facilitate the Gallery’s ability to interface with federal, state, civilian, military and local emergency operations.
Collaborates with other agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies, and local Fire and Police Departments, ensuring complete interoperability with existing systems.
Responds to disasters, serves as a leader, with responsibility for ensuring successful accomplishment of duties by team members, even if of higher grade.
Acts as liaison for internal Gallery customers and business lines to support interagency programs and initiatives. Leads, provides training in areas of expertise, or otherwise participates in training programs for emergency preparedness, damage assessment and disaster support and coordinates the provision of intra and interagency training in emergency programs.

Mastery of interagency contingency systems, regulations, executive orders and relevant legal precedent sufficient to serve as the principal agency spokesperson and authority on all aspects of emergency capability and asset readiness.
Knowledge of emergency response, recovery practices and procedures required to address broad program issues, where plans and proposals involve substantial Gallery resources and may be in conflict with the desires of influential curatorial decision makers.
